
The mission of the Department of Finance is to promote financial accountability and accurate reporting, while ensuring the proper use of Tribal resources and safeguarding the Tribal assets, utilizing a broad-based reflective approach to support programs in serving the community and Tribal membership.

The Director of Finance is experienced in tribal financial operations and is proficient in the application and understanding of 2 C.F.R. PART 200—Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards. Additionally, she is experienced in tribal computerized financial systems and governmentally required reports. The Director of Finance is also familiar with contract and grant administration and the single Audit Act.
The Staff Accountant processes payroll and under limited supervision, provides accounting analysis duties. The Staff Accountant maintains the award records in the Nation’s electronic financial system. The Staff Accountant prepares computerized financial reports, monitors grant cash management systems, and supports the preparation of grant financial reports. The Staff Accountant is responsible for Accounts Receivable.

The Administrative Assistant supports the office with filing, answering phones, processing MIP checks, obtaining authorized signatures, and general overall support of the Office. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant performs other duties as necessary.

The Grants and Contract Manager directs all aspects of the Contract and Grant Solicitation and Accounting activities under the supervision of the Financial Director and Tribal Administration. This position provides a range of research administrative services for the preparation and submission of proposals, negotiations, and acceptance of grants and contracts, and the administration of project funds.
Grants Administrator maintains a reporting, tracking, evaluation, and projecting system for all fiscal matters pertaining to federal, state, and local grants and contracts on behalf of the Shinnecock Indian Nation. Assists in seeking grant and contract funding that is in line with priorities, goals, and objectives of the Nation. Maintains specified records, files, and logs to ensure accurate reporting of department activities.
The Procurement Officer performs a variety of Accounts Payable functions under the supervision of the Director of Finance regarding all purchasing activities for the Nation. The Accounts Payable procedures involve the preparation of payments to vendors, check requests, contracts, and other financial obligations of the Tribe.
