The Shinnecock Elder’s Program intention is to honor all tribal elders with dignity and respect. To offer opportunities for social interaction, cultural enrichment, recreation, wellness education, nutritional meals, exercise and volunteerism. To administer, manage, deliver and sustain a thriving elder program all within a safe and healthy environment. The Shinnecock Elder’s Program understand the value tribal elder possess through their knowledge, wisdom and guidance.

These are important values that keep our cultural traditions vibrant, imparting the ways of past generations to our future generation. Children learn by what they see, elders set a guide of truth and action. Our tribal elders appreciate bonding with the youth through multi- generational social events. Whenever tribal elders come together it is a blessing, one that is not taken for granted. The mutual respect shown, the laughter as they reminisce in enjoyable recollection of past times. Our Shinnecock elders reveal to us looking behind fills you with gratitude, looking forward fills you with vision, looking upwards fills you with strength, looking within you discover peace. Therefore, we honor our tribal elders for they have the wisdom to teach what we have not learned yet.

The Elders Program and The Caregiver Program would like to reach out to the community with our current schedule and program hours.  For many elders of The Shinnecock Nation, home is everything. It’s a window to the past, a safe haven for the present and the story they long to leave for future generations.

We are here at the Preservation Center, Monday-Friday/10am-5pm.

The Shinnecock Caregiver Program and Elders program aims to strengthen the relationship between Caregiver and loved one by developing supportive services and outlets at any level of caregiving. Our goal is to develop supporting relationships that make caregiving at home self-driven, safe, and confident.  We provide recreational experiences, congregate, and grab and go lunch services, to engage our elders with their peers and foster relationships alike. All while monitoring and assessing their safety and ability to carry on activities of daily living and self-care. We provide services and support that allow our elders to remain as independent as possible in their homes or residences and engage in the community, enabling a quality of life for them and their families which cannot be achieved on their own.
